Eye Candy

Courtesy of NBC's Bobbie Thomas, I am now in total awe of her eyeliner tricks of the trade. Now, not all girls love a cat eye, but ever since I discovered make-up I have been in love with the uber glam look that channels Marylin Monroe and epitomizes old Hollywood glamor. Some of us could just be intimidated by the cat eye. Fear no more fellow fashionistas. Take solace in the below tips:

 Eyeliner stickers from Eye Rock.

Masters Madness

It's that time of year again. I don't know about you, but if you are from the South, especially Georgia like myself, than this time of year is known to be sacred. I have only had the honor of making the trip to Augusta National for The Masters Tournament once. Thanks to my awesome brother-in-law, who has yearly passes, Matthew and I made the trip in 2010 on Sunday to watch Phil Michelson win it all.

It's hard to describe how beautiful the landscape truly was. The vibrant color of the azaleas and the breathtaking hues of the perfectly manicured greens looked like a painting. I was tempted to touch everything just to make sure it was real. We parked ourselves right at Amen Corner for the entire day while I bathed in SPF 100.

The only fall back for going during the actual tournament is that you cannot bring in a camera, and we were too impatient to stand in line for the one picture you can pose for. After all, I would rather spend my time standing in line for the delicious barbecue, egg salad and pimento cheese sandwiches. Ohhhhh, the yummy memories. So, until the ticket rotation gets back our way we can just celebrate with our own Masters party.

Below is a spicy version for those of you who, like my fiance, need to add hot sauce to everything.
Recipe via eatocracy

Pimento Cheese
Makes about 3/4 gallon
  • 4 cups shredded cheddar
  • 4 cups shredded Havarti
  • 1 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 cup bread and butter pickles, minced
  • 3/4 cup pickle juice
  • 2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Tabasco hot sauce
  • 1 cup pimentos, minced
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • salt and black pepper, to taste

Combine cheeses, mayonnaise, pickle juice and Tabasco in food processor and pulse until combined. Stir in the rest of the ingredients. Season to taste with salt and black pepper.

Now, we need to accompany this delicious treat with a cocktail, of course!
What sounds more Southern than The Azalea Cocktail? Well, nothing does and thanks to CDKitchen we can share with you this sassy recipe.

We may or may not have taste tested this a few times this week :)

Azalea cocktail
Makes one drink
  •  1 part lime or lemon juice
  •  1 part canned pineapple juice
  •  3 parts gin
  •  Grenadine to color pink
Mix in cocktail shaker with ice and shake.

Now, go throw on your green, gather some friends this weekend, and visualize yourself at Augusta National sitting under the striped umbrellas sippin' cocktails and taking in all its beauty.

St. Patty's Engagement Party

This past weekend we had our engagement party-part two in my fiance's hometown of Monroe, Louisiana. I wanted to share a few party pictures of some beautiful and unique flower arrangements, some yummy treats, and just a few breathtaking views from our gracious hostess's house on the bayou.

We have the most beautiful Spring in the South.

Fitting with our Louisiana themed nosh is a pirogue for some beer,

Get Your Green Thumb On

Thoughts of Spring and warmer weather have me aching to get all the prep work out of the way while patiently waiting for the first hydrangeas to bloom with either a cup of tea in hand or a Mojito, with fresh mint from my own garden of course.

This past weekend, I channelled my inner Martha Stewart, I think it had something to do with listening to her Sirius channel during a four hour drive, and was determined to prepare my outdoor area for the coming season. After hours of pruning back rose bushes, I am now wearing my thorn scratches like battle scars. Weeding became my middle name while getting the azaleas in tip-top shape that even my grandmother would be proud of.

Growing up, my parents were outside working in our backyard every single day. My Dad was busy with the mowing and sculpting of the shrubs while Mom was constantly tending to her flower, herb, and vegetable gardens. Our backyard was draped in color. I even had my own little garden that I took pride in. My favorite flowers were Snap Dragons and Lilies of the Valley. Both so different...one with vibrant colors and pizazz and the other so classic and delicate.

Enough rambling... want to get your own garden started? What if you live in an apartment? No problem at all. One of the hottest indoor and outdoor plants these days are succulents. They don't require much attention, but they look fantastic. Big or small, on the wall or in a bowl...I'm telling you these things are the coolest. I went down to our local nursery, picked out a terra cotta pot, and one of the workers was kind enough to walk around with me to pick out which plants would work best together. Now, I've seen these guys on West Elm, but let's try to shop locally.

Now, everyone wants fresh herbs. If you are starting out, it's best to have some potted herbs, so you can bring them in and out and take them with you easily when you move. I have used this fun project from Pinterest.

Aloe! If you know me, then you know I don't tan...I burn and like no other. You better believe I will have some of this on tap.

Now, if you are looking to get serious with your gardening,  then please discover my best friends who at the same time don't know I exist... The Fabulous Beekman Boys. The "boys" have their own sustainable farm in up-state New York. I have signed up for their gardening e-mails that go out from March until November with updates on when and what to plant and also to keep you on schedule. It's not too late to start. Go check these guys out!

Good luck and hopefully I will have some beautiful pictures to share soon!
